I follow "Eat This Not That" on Facebook, and today's story is all about salads. I love a great salad, but you have to be very careful about what include in your salad, as well as what you put on it. It’s too often that the salads at your favorite
restaurant are as bad as anything else on the menu. Fresh produce is
weighed down with cheese, deep fried croutons or tortilla strips, and
slathered in oily dressing
How is it that restaurants are able to make dangerously oversize salads
and sell them to the kind of customer who wouldn’t even dream of eating
a cheeseburger? Simple: They use public perception against the public.
People assume salads are healthy—or at least that they’re healthier
than cheeseburgers and pizza. Turns out that with today’s heavy-handed
techniques, that assumption is wrong as often as it is right.
To help you through the battlefield, we’ve put together a list of the
unhealthiest salads in America. Be sure to check out the healthier
alternatives - they're guaranteed to shock you.
1 - What you put out comes back all the time, no matter what. 2 - You define your own life. Don't let other people write your script. 3 - Whatever someone did to you in the past has no power over the present. Only if you give it power. 4 - When people show you who they are, believe them the first time. 5 - Worrying is a waste of time. Use the same energy for doing something about whatever worries you. 6 - What you believe has more power than what you dream or wish or hope for. You become what you believe. 7 - If the only prayer you ever say is thank you, that will be enough. 8 - The happiness you feel is in direct proportion to the love you give. 9 - Failure is a signpost to turn you in another direction. 10 - If you make a choice that goes against what everyone else thinks, the world will not fall apart. 11 - Trust your instincts. Intuition doesn't lie. 12 - Love yourself and then learn to extend that love to others in every encounter. 13 - Let passion drive your profession. 14 - Find a way to get paid for doing what you love. Then every paycheck will be a bonus. 15 - Love doesn't hurt. It feels really good. 16 - Every day brings a chance to start over. 17 - Being a mother is the hardest job on earth. Women everywhere must declare it so. 18 - Doubt means don't. Don't move. Don't answer. Don't rush forward. 19 - When you don't know what to do, get still. The answer will come. 20. - Trouble don't last always.
Cheers to a great weekend filled with love! Happy Valentine's Day! Be good to you and all those around you. Until next time....BE AMAZING!
I follow "Eat This Not That" on Twitter, and this was the article this morning....very interesting. Be sure to click the title for the Top 30 countdown. Also at the bottom of this blog post is a link to download the iPhone App for "Eat This Not That"!!!
When you eat out at most restaurants, from the
highest of the high-end to the cheapest and fastest of the drive-thrus,
you’re all but guaranteed to take in more than your recommended daily
intake for sodium—about 2,300 milligrams of sodium, max. But salt is so
cheap and, let’s face it, makes so many foods taste delicious, that
it’s in nearly everything. In fact, the average American takes in about
3,300 milligrams of sodium every single day!
Why is that a problem? With ever-expanding portion sizes, super salty
foods are displacing fresh fruits and vegetables, which are rich in
potassium. And a 1:1 ratio of dietary salt to potassium is critical for
your health. Studies show that a high-sodium, low-potassium diet is
linked to a host of maladies, including high blood pressure, stroke,
osteoporosis, and exercise-induced asthma.
To protect your heart, your bones, your muscles, and your taste buds,
we scoured takeout menus to expose the top 30 saltiest foods in
America. No need to take the information with a grain of salt. These
dishes provide plenty.
I follow Sunflower Farmers Market on Facebook and this was posted on their Fan Page today. Some good 100 calorie snack ideas!
Just in time for Valentine's Day, Maya Nahra of Sunflower Farmers Market shows Kaley O'Kelley how to make some delectable chocolate treats that are only about 100 calories.
To melt chocolate, microwave on Medium for 1 minute. Stir, then continue microwaving on Medium, stirring every 20 seconds, until melted. Or place chocolate in the top of a double boiler over hot, but not boiling, water. Stir until melted.
Quick Mini Chocolate Cheesecakes 1/4 cup semisweet or bittersweet chocolate chips, melted 1/2 cup part-skim ricotta
12 chocolate wafer cookies 1 Tbsp. 100-percent fruit jam, such as raspberry or cherry
Combine melted chocolate and ricotta in a small bowl. Spoon a scant 1 tablespoon of the mixture on each chocolate wafer and top with 1/4 teaspoon jam. Per cheesecake: 61 calories
Chocolate Drizzled Popcorn 1/2 cup bulk popcorn 2 Tbsp. coconut oil 2 cups dark chocolate chips, melted Large chuck sea salt
Heat coconut oil in a pot over high heat, add popcorn kernels, and place lid on top. With on hand on the lid and one hand on the pot handle, move the pot back and forth over the heat until all the kernels have popped.
Spread out popcorn over wax paper and drizzle melted chocolate over the popcorn. Sprinkle the large chuck sea salt on top, just a little will do.
Let popcorn and chocolate sit overnight and break up into chucks in the morning. Want to get creative? Add cherries, swirls of white chocolate, or peanut butter chips! Per serving: 100 calories
Peanut Butter & Pretzel Truffles 1/2 cup crunchy natural peanut butter 1/4 cup finely chopped salted pretzels 1/2 cup milk chocolate chips, melted Combine peanut butter and pretzels in a small bowl.
Chill in the freezer until firm, about 15 minutes. Roll the peanut butter mixture into 20 balls (about 1 teaspoon each). Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment or wax paper and freeze until very firm, about 1 hour. Roll the frozen balls in melted chocolate. Refrigerate until the chocolate is set, about 30 minutes. Per truffle: 64 calories
Frozen Chocolate-Covered Bananas 4 large ripe bananas, peeled and cut into thirds crosswise 3/4 cup semisweet or bittersweet chocolate chips, melted 1/4 cup shredded coconut
Line a baking sheet with parchment or wax paper. Insert a popsicle stick into the cut end of each banana half. Cover each piece of banana with melted chocolate using a rubber spatula and sprinkle with coconut. (Reheat chocolate, as needed, to keep it melted.) Place the bananas on the baking sheet and freeze until frozen, about 2 hours. Per serving: 100 calories

Having spent most of my adult life as a morbidly obese woman, this Oprah Show made my cry. I know all too well, the miserable existence life can be when you are obese. The stares, the names, the laughter, the pointing...deep inside feeling that you are less than a person because of your weight. But to be a child growing up and being overweight is something that no one could ever imagine the pain unless you have walked in the shoes of someone who has struggled their life battling weight issue. This program broke my heart!! When is America and our government going to GET IT!!! Obesity is the single most devastating disease facing our population!!! It's not something as easy as saying..."eat less." We are way beyond that!!! If you get a chance to see this show, please take the time to watch it. -- Teri V.
There is an epidemic affecting the health of America's children. It isn't smoking or drug abuse—it's obesity. "This could be the first generation of children to not outlive their parents," Oprah says. Sixteen teenagers share their struggles with weight in hopes of finding the cause. "We wanted to challenge them to take part in a grueling eight-hour intervention where they confront the reasons why they're overweight," Oprah says. "As you hear from them, you'll understand how they got here goes way beyond junk food."

Anyone who knows me, knows I am a huge fan of The Biggest Loser. In this weekend's Denver Post, USA Weekend insert I found this interview article with Jillian Michaels. MAN IS THIS SO TRUE OR WHAT!!! Something we have been saying all along!!!! Thanks for the words of encouragement Jillian!!!
The Key to Lasting Weight Loss
"The Biggest Loser"'s Jillian Michaels tells you how to stay on course.
By Jorge Cruise
"Fitness is an empowerment tool," says Jillian Michaels, famed fitness coach on NBC's series "The Biggest Loser" and author of, most recently, "Master Your Metabolism." "It gives you knowledge, power, understanding and strength, and being strong physically transcends into every facet of your life."
After working with more than 150 people on The Biggest Loser alone, the trainer, 35, has seen what it takes to truly make a commitment to change. The key to lasting weight loss? "The one [thing] I see with people who stay the course and keep the weight off is they are willing to explore their demons, and they continue to deal with their issues," she says. "Don't run from your problems, because then they grow larger. Examine your issues and see where you can be proactive and change your attitude."
A good place to start is with a journal. Write down any negative thoughts you have about yourself and why you haven't been able to achieve your goals. Learn to let go of these thoughts and create positive ones in their place; remind yourself every day that you are worth the effort. "We're all a work in progress," Michaels adds. "Embrace where you are now and move forward from there."

Trish Gordon is one of our Saturday Workout in the Park participants, here is what she had to say about her experience:
"Honestly, if I can just tell you something and I pray this does not sound messed up or anything cause you girls are BEAUTIFUL to me!
You all’s program is really fantastic for women/people like me.. Women that don’t have much workout experience and automatically think they can’t do it. It’s fantastic cause you don’t have to rail thin Barbies standing in front of you telling you “you can do it..” You have two plus sized Barbies standing in front of you telling you “you can do it” but it means a hell of a lot more coming from someone that looks a little more like you. It’s encouraging and makes a person who normally subsides to self defeat before even attempting to do the work feel like it’s possible and “they can do it..!”
I do love it. I Love feeling like I can do this. I love feeling like I can conquer my 2nd most important goal. I will testify and give all credit to you and Teri because I really felt like I could not freaking do it.
Do you know something as simple as Teri walking by me and saying, “good job Trish, keep it up” girl put me in a zone..! Made me feel good. (and that’s all a healthy life style is).
Thanks for the AWESOME feedback Trish...we love you too and glad you have joined us!

So that’s why I am so freaking impressed with you and Terri..! I can dig it man. My legs are not as sore as they were last weekend and I know it’s cause I did not push myself like I should have. So I’ll never drink the night before class again.
